‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’ was a surprise hit at the box office, and is still raking in good numbers. The film is not the usual rom-com, and is a typical film for Bollywood. Director Luv Ranjan admits thatit’s not a film that you can see from a philosophical perspective.

Ranjan and producer Abhishek Pathak spoke to TOI about the film’s success. Ranjan said, “Things have been told from a male perspective but at the end of the day, it is a comedy. Therefore, you cannot take it too seriously. We don’t buy the rationale that men have liked it more than women. There are a lot of women from this generation who have loved the film. Youngsters are more chilled out and the self-deprecatory humor works with them. If you see the movie from a philosophical and ideological point of view, it will go for a toss.”

Pathak added that he and his father Kumar Mangat Pathak believed in their franchise, and that they got much more support from the media, thesecond time around. He said, “It is our faith in our franchise that made my father Kumar Mangat Pathak and I buy the theatrical rights back from Viacom18 Pictures for worldwide distribution. The media came forward and gave us the support. There was a definite curiosity to see what we have done a second time around and they were more welcoming.”

Ranjan also says that they are thinking about a third installment, and it would be fun to make it from a female perspective.
