Director of ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ arrested

Reports have it that the director of Anupam Kher’s forthcoming film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’  has been arrested and charged for Goods and Service Tax fraud.

According to Hindustan Times, Vijay Ratnakar Gutte is under judicial custody for fraud of nearly Rs 34 crore. “Gutte has been booked under section 132 (1)(c) of the CGST Act, which pertains to ‘wrongful availment’ of input tax credit using bills and invoices that have been issued without any supply of goods or services,” a source was reported revealing.  

Apparently Gutte’s company, VRG Digital Corp Pvt Ltd was one of the top companies to deal with the animation company Horizon Outsource Solutions Pvt Ltd, where the fake invoices were given to. The report goes on to add that the fake invoices amounted to around Rs 266 crore with the GST, though there was no actual services being supplied.

From these invoices, Gutte was also reported to have claimed refund of Rs 28 crore from the government against Central Value Added Tax (CENVAT) credit.

‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ is based on the like of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and is set for release on 21st December.
