Diljit Dosanjh: “Want to take the Punjabi cinema to wider audience”

Diljit Dosanjh

Diljit Dosanjh made a dhamaakedaar debut in Bollywood with recent release ‘Udta Punjab’ but when asked about his journey, he says he hope to get Punjabi cinema to a bigger audience.

Talking in an interview with Hindustan Times, the actor said, “It feels great to be able to reach out to a bigger audience. You will see me next in Phillauri۪ with Anushka Sharma. However, I want to take the Punjabi cinema to a wider audience. Had it not been for Punjabi films, I wouldn۪t have been offered the role of Sartaj. Sardaarji 2۪ releases this week and I am also doing the first super hero film in Punjabi —Super Singh۪.”

On being pitted as a mainstream actor after ‘Udta Punjab’, Dosanjh responds, “It۪s a big relief after this whole censorship drama. It stressed us all, but I knew the audience would appreciate the film. For me, it was most important to be true to my Punjabi fans and keep their faith intact. The viewers will see honesty in the film۪s characters.”

It is thought the actor wanted to do ‘Udta Punjab’ and return to Punjabi cinema but let’s see whether, after ‘Phillauri’, he manages to attract more offers that keep him in B-town.
