Diljit Dosanjh talks about intense training for ‘Soorma’

When it comes to interesting stories, Bollywood’s biggest trend is biopics about athletes, which seems to be a favourite for audiences as well. However, with the success of the films, many forget how much the actors have to go through in order to get into shape to represent an athlete’s body, and what their own bodies go through. This is something singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh has now experienced for the first time for his forthcoming biopic ‘Soorma’.

Representing the story of real-life hockey player Sandeep Singh, who kept on going after he was accidentally shot on a train in 2006, Dosanjh caught up with the media and expressed how hard it was for him to get his physique up to the right standards. “The role was extremely draining with so much intense training. Physically, it was very tough. I had a lot of problems post shooting the film. When I was shooting, I had stopped consuming sugar, I used to eat salt very less.” Hindustan Times report Dosanjh expressing.

Though the training was hard, it was the aftermath that really seemed to have made a huge effect on Dosanjh’s body, as he explained, “Because we wanted the physique of an athlete in a very short time, I pushed my body a lot to achieve that result. When the film got over and I started eating normally, I got swelling on my hands, face and all over the body. There was a reaction. When you reduce the intake of salt, the water in your body doesn’t stay and you get cramps.”

Also starring Taapsee Pannu, ‘Soorma’ has been directed by Shaad Ali.
