Desire Radio to launch on Spectrum Radio

A new Asian radio station is set to take a large chunk of the Spectrum Radio output when it launches in early 2012.

Desire Radio will be an entertainment station consisting of Pakistani and Indian music from the 1960s to the present day. Commenting on the programming of Desire Radio, a spokesperson for the station said, “We feel there is a gap in the market for a radio station such as us, and we hope to take full advantage of the situation accommodating for both communities tastes. The programme schedule will include Pakistani and Indian music from the 1960۪s right through to the present day; from 10:00 until 18:00 daily, on DAB Spectrum Radio.”

Desire Radio will be the latest Asian radio station to join Spectrum Radio after the closure of ZEE Radio a couple of years ago. Spectrum Radio is a multicultural radio station broadcasting on Sky Digital, DAB and 558AM in Greater London.

The director of the station, Shahid Jamal, says “Our primary goal is to establish a radio platform that will cater for the ethnic Indian and Pakistani communities currently residing within the UK.”

Test transmissions for Desire Radio can be heard on DAB digital radio in London currently. The station launches officially in February 2012.
