Deepika: “SLB brings out the best in me as an actor”

In the midst of working with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the third time, Deepika Padukone has gone on record to state, that this next collaboration has enriched a whole new set of challenges for her, that bring her up as an actress.

Talking to the media about her forthcoming project ‘Padmavati’, Asian Age reports Padukone expressing, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali brings out the best in me as an actor. Working on ‘Padmavati’ with him brings out a creatively- enriching feeling in me… The way he pushes you, challenges you… That’s what drives me to do his films.”

The film also stars Ranveer Singh who Padukone has worked with twice before. She went on to say express how it can be difficult to bring out something fresh when working with someone you have worked with before.”

“It is difficult as an actor to work with someone you have worked for so long. It’s challenging for both the director and actor to bring something new to the table every time they come together. Even when he worked with Ranveer (Singh) in ‘Ram Leela’ (2013) and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015), it was a similar feeling and these films are classic examples. We hope we are able to deliver something different for the audience this time again with ‘Padmavati’,” Padukone explained.

‘Padmavati’ will also have Shahid Kapoor playing a lead in the film.
