If there was one film that has been in a casting merry go round then this has to be it. Initially SRK was supposed to play the male lead in the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat۪s novel 2 States۪. Then, Ranbir Kapoor was in talks with producer Sajid Nadiadwala but those talks bit the dust too. And now that Imran Khan has officially been signed on to play the protagonist, there is immense speculation as to which actress will land the female lead. Bollywood Hungama reports that, at present it۪s a toss up between three leading ladies, namely Deepika Padukone, Asin and Priyanka Chopra.

“2 States is a love story of a Punjabi boy and a South Indian girl. If Sajid Nadiadwala would be looking at an actress who brings in a certain authenticity of playing a South Indian character, the choice boils down to only two heroines – Asin and Deepika Padukone – due to their roots. Moreover, Asin has a good experience of working in films down South as well so that’s an added advantage. Incidentally, Sajid has a good tuning with both since he has worked with them in the Housefull franchise,” quoted a source.

However, Priyanka Chopra seems to be in the running for the role too despite her Punjabi roots.

“She is a capable actress though and if given an opportunity, she would go for it. After all, didn’t she just pick the Maharashtrian traits so well in Kaminey۪ as well as Agneepath’? Moreover, she too has been Sajid’s leading lady in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi۪ and Anjaana Anjaani’,” added the source.

It will be interesting to see who ultimately lands the role. Imran and Deepika have worked together in Break Ke Baad۪ which fizzled out at the box office. Adding Priyanka or Asin to the combination could prove beneficial as neither have worked with Imran, and a fresh pairing always adds to the curiosity of a film.

On their part the actresses and film makers have taken a ‘no comment’ stance, probably waiting for the news to be announced officially.

May the best leading lady win we say. Watch this space for more.
