Being in the film business is an extremely tough job, and someone who has conquered the hardships that come with being a celebrity is Deepika Padukone. However it hasn’t been an easy journey.

In an interview with Filmfare, the actress spoke about how it was when she first started out. “When I came into the industry, I believed a heroine had to be a certain way – that is have a certain length of hair, possess a certain body type, wear certain type of clothes, speak in a certain way. I fell into the stereotype trap of what a heroine should be,” Padukone expressed.

She went on to state, “Then in ‘Om Shanti Om’ (2007), because I was presented so beautifully, I genuinely believed that it۪s going to be like this in every film of mine. That someone would be watching my back. Like Farah Khan would push me and say, Baby do it like this and say it like this۪. I believed every director was going to be like that. But it didn۪t turn out like that.”

The actress went onto add how she felt as though she needed to fit in. The industry talk would be based on films, and despite not knowing everything she felt as though she has to act like she did.

As the years have gone on however, Padukone feels a lot more comfortable with being who she is. “It۪s okay if you۪ve come from a different background where we didn۪t breathe, eat and sleep films. Even today, I۪ve a lot of catching up to do. I۪ve not watched some of the classics. But I۪m comfortable enough today to say that I۪ve not watched a ‘Sholay’ (1975) or ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ (1960). Today when I go to a party, I don۪t have to socialise. I don۪t have to make conversation with everyone. I۪m okay watching people and sitting quietly on the side.”

Well it seems being herself has worked out for the best for Padukone. Addressing personal issues to the public, she has become an advocate and inspiration to many when she came out to reveal that she had in fact gone through depression, and addressed as a real issue. Using the example that she had gone through depression whilst her professional life was on a high, was a brilliant example of attempting to make the world understand a little more about it.
