Deepika Padukone slammed for making ‘Chhapaak’ look as TikTok challenge

It is not secret that Deepika Padukone’s ‘Chhapaak’ (2019) has struggled with box office collections. In the 10 days following its release, the Meghna Gulzar directorial has made about Rs 29.25 crore. Prior to the release of the film, Padukone was also criticised for visiting JNU in Delhi post the violence took place inside the college. Since then many people demanded a boycott of ‘Chhapaak,’ while a few states declared the film tax-free.

Meanwhile, the star has continued to promote the film and even joined the viral app TikTok in her efforts, reports DNA India. Recently, the star featured in a video by a makeup artist where she asked her to recreate her three iconic looks from the film – ‘Om Shanti Om’ (2007), ‘Piku’ (2015) and ‘Chhapaak.’ However, after seeing the makeup artist recreating the ‘Chhapaak’ look, there was a public outcry slamming the star and called her insensitive.

Many asked her to not “stoop low” in the name of promotions and called her act “appalling.” Some also wrote, “OMG! I have no words, so at the end of the day, it was all just a makeup for her. Disgusting and sad… beauty without brains. Can’t help. These celebrities will never understand. Fake people.”

There were however a few who defended Padukone’s act by tweeting, “Deepika helping to normalise acid scars with Malti’s look being recreated. Social inclusion for acid attack survivors is important and the TikTok videos are a great way.”

“Chhapaak” is out in cinemas now and also stars Vikrant Massey.
