Deepika Padukone refuses to fill Kangana Ranaut’s shoes in ‘Imli’?

Rumours about Deepika Padukone starring in Anurag Basu’s ‘Imli’ after Kangana Ranaut’s decision to opt out of the film have created a lot of excitement amongst fans. However, it seems that these reports may be nothing more than hearsay.

According to a source, “Deepika would never do a role rejected by Kangana, she would never hear the end of it. Kangana and her sister love to tell the film industry and the audience about the roles that Kangana has rejected.  Not a very nice thing to do. But then Kangana and her spokesperson-sister do what they like, regardless of repercussions. Deepika certainly doesn’t want to get into an embarrassing position,” Asian Age reported.

Basu and Padukone have discussed the film, the source shared, “They had an informal meeting, where Basu told her about the role in ‘Imli’. She liked it, but she never said yes, and she won’t. She would have no problem in stepping in to any actress’ role. But not Kangana. There is too much baggage here to carry forward.” Basu had previously approached Padukone for the role before her wedding but she was unavailable at the time, resulting in Ranaut being signed.

‘Imli’ currently features Rajkummar Rao as the male lead.
