Deepika Padukone: “Where have we reached, we have regressed as a nation”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ is gearing up for its release next month, but the film has had its share of controversy. Many are still protesting the film’s release, and leading lady Deepika Padukone is sad that the nation is regressing, and feels that the film is only answerable to the censor board.

Speaking about the protests, Padukone told IANS, “It’s appalling, it’s absolutely appalling. What have we gotten ourselves into? And where have we reached as a nation? We have regressed. The only people we are answerable to is the censor board, and I know and I believe that the industry’s support symbolizes how this is not about Padmavati….we’re fighting a much bigger battle.”

‘Padmavati’ also stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, and is slated for an 1st December release.
