Deepika Padukone to portray acid attack victim in Meghna Gulzar’s next

Deepika Padukone will be turning producer for Meghna Gulzar’s next venture, in which she will also be starring in.

According to Mumbai Mirror, the actress will be playing a challenging role of an acid attack victim – based on the life of survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

“When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer,” Padukone told the publication.

Agarwal was attacked in 2005 by a man after she had turned down his marriage proposal.

The film goes on the floors in February.
