Reigning Queen of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone was once again graced with Best Actress honours at the IIFA Awards 2016 ceremony, which took place in Madrid, Spain for her performance in ‘Piku'(2015). Although pleased with the accolade, speaking to the media following the event, the popular actress confessed she wished she had been awarded for her role in ‘Bajirao Mastani'(2015).

As reported byABP Live, the former model stated, “I am happy, but at the same time I wish I had won for ‘Bajirao [Mastani]’ as well. There’s always a next time. I know ‘Bajirao’ was special. ‘Tamasha’ was equally special. So it’s nice to see your name nominated there so many times, but you win only for one. Either way I am happy.”

In spite of this, the evening at IIFAs saw ‘Bajirao Mastani’ bagging the most awards, albeit Best Actress was not one of them. Due appreciation for the film was acknowledged in the following categories, ‘Best Director’ went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, ‘Best Actor (male)’ was happily received by Ranveer Singh, Sudeep Chatterjee got ‘Best Cinematography’and Priyanka Chopra was welcomed to the stage to collect ‘Best Performance in a Supporting role (Female)’ for her portrayal of Kashibai.
