Deepika Padukone favours ‘Bajirao Mastani’ over ‘Shuddhi’

Having been signed for Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’ after Kareena Kapoor Khan walked out of the project, Deepika Padukone’s luck was most definitely in. However, in an almost heartbreaking decision, Padukone was also favourite for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ which would have alleged beau Ranveer Singh as male lead. BizAsia has learnt that the actress has chosen to work Bhansali over Karan Johar.

The choice would have been a hard one for the model-turned-actress but no doubt the fact that Singh was signed as lead for ‘Bajirao Mastani’ could have made her decision easier. According to TOI, both projects would require a chunk of the cast’s time in both production and promotional activities and that is why she had to choose between the two – not to mention the two being slated to release at the same time.

One wonders who will end up bagging ‘Shuddhi’ as it has been heard that Singh also decided against being a part of the venture in favour of Bhansali. To see Singh, Padukone and Bhansali work again together post the success of last year’s ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ will definitely be nothing short of magical.
