News recently emerged that Bollywood would be making Amit Tripathi’s book, ‘The Immortals of Meluha’. Karan Johar is set to make the movie, titled ‘Shuddhi’, and is believed to have booked Diwali 2014 for its release. The male lead has also been confirmed as Hrithik Roshan, however, a heroine is yet to be confirmed to play the role of Sati. BizAsia has learnt that the two actress’s in the running are Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor.
Karan Malhotra will be directing the movie and this is bring the team of 2012’s ‘Agneepath’ together once again. However, although it was initially thought that this would mean Priyanka Chopra would be female lead, it seems the makers have decided otherwise. A source divulged to Hindustan Times, “Quite a few names came up, but finally, after seeing the screenplay, they reckon either of these two actors are the best fit for the role”.
Malhotra, although keeping secretive about the project, did hint, “You must understand that this is something I can۪t speak about at all. He does, however, provide a hint when he says, They (Kareena and Deepika) are the finest actresses today. So when you write a script, they are the first names that come to mind… The moment the actor gets finalised, I will be able to talk in detail”. It now remains to be seen whether the makers opt for a jodi that’s fresh or one that the audiences are familiar with.
Johar has confirmed that he hopes for the venture to go on the floors by November at the latest. Pre-production activities are currently taking place. Keep checking in with BizAsia for more on this developing story.
