Recently Stephen Frears’ ‘Victoria and Abdul’ saw multiple premieres in Europe and USA. Ali Fazal, who is playing the titular role of Abdul, took a month long off from India to attend these special screenings along with his co-star Dame Judi Dench and other cast of the film.
During one such special screening when it was asked Dench to share her experience working with Fazal, she said, “Ali is a beautiful young man. He’s kind of a romantic, and also a laugher. That’s a good mixture. We got on very well indeed”. Such a compliment coming from an Oscar winning actor and who holds immense popularity and respect worldwide is a matter of pride and honour for an Indian born actor.
The film tells the true story of an unexpected friendship between Queen Victoria and her young clerk Abdul Karim who travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favour with the Queen herself. The film is scheduled for an 13th October release in India.
