BCCI: Cricket rights announcement after 8th Sept
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI, has assured to the Delhi High Court, that it will not hold a meeting of its marketing committee further till the HC orders the hearing on ZEE Telefilms petition challenging the eligibility conditions, which means BCCI will only decide on bids for cricket telecast rights in India for the next four years after September 8, 2005. BCCI gave the assurance to a Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice B A Khan and Justice Madan B Lokur, who heard the petition filed by ZEE Telefilms. Mukul Rohatagi, representing ZEE Telefilms has said the present set of eligibility conditions in the telecast rights tender is framed by the BCCI in a manner, which excludes them.

ZEE and ESPN Star Sports, both of them have bid for telecast rights of cricket matches to be played in India from October 2005 to September 2009. The court had made it to BCCI that either it should undertake not to decide the bids till the next date or an order would be passed to restrain it from doing so as in the event of the cricket body deciding the bids, the writ petition would become infructuous.
