Daily Mail pays 45,000 to Sikh police officer

A Sikh police officer is to get more than 45,000 in legal costs from the Daily Mail.

The Mail will pay the money to Gurpal Virdi after it agreed to print an apology for a story about him published in April last year.

Gurpal Virdi was falsely accused of racism and dismissed from the police force and then reinstated and paid compensation.

Mr Virdi told MediaGuardian.co.uk: “I’m pleased with the result, it has been a lot of stress on myself and my family. It was never about money, it was about the Daily Mail giving me an apology and looking at the facts as they are.”
