Controversy over Akshay Kumar’s ‘Prithviraj’ title continues with protests

Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film ‘Prithviraj’ is facing controversy after protests were held in Chandigarh over the film’s name.

The film helmed by Yash Raj Films, is a story of King Prithviraj Chauhan. However, the film has been attracting negativity over the last few weeks, with the Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha demanding the change of title of the movie.

The organisation state that the film’s title should be “Hindu Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan” or “Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan.” Protestors are of the view that Prithviraj Chauhan was the last Hindu king of India so naming the movie only Prithviraj would be an insult.

The Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha also demanded a special screening of the film prior to its release to ensure the history has not been misinterpreted.

In the past, films like ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Jodha Akbar’ have faced similar issues.

‘Prithviraj’ releases in November 2021.
