Controversial Koh-i-Noor diamond not to be used in King’s coronation

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that it will not be using the controversial Koh-i-Noor diamond during the King’s coronation this spring.

Camilla, the Queen Consort, will be crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown instead. It is said the crown has been taken out of the Tower of London to be readied for the ceremony.

The crown will also feature diamonds from Queen Elizabeth II’s jewellery.

Over the years, there has been public outcry about the ownership of the Koh-i-Noor. Concerns had been expressed about a diplomatic row with India if the crown was to be used in its current form. India has made claims that it is the rightful owner of the Kohi-i-Noor.

The coronation takes place on Saturday 6th May.
