Channel 4 has been criticised for a controversial poll on British Muslims it broadcast on Wednesday night.

BizAsiaLive.com understands that media regulator Ofcom has received 23 complaints since the programme ‘What British Muslims Really Think’ was aired.

The show fronted by Trevor Phillips (pictured), was touted as the makers most comprehensive surveys in years based on a sample of 1,081 people (0.03% of the Muslim population). Some of the shocking results that came out included 4% sympathising with terrorism, while 52% of the surveyed saying homosexuality should be be illegal and around 25% of people in the survey saying they would prefer living under Sharia law.

The programme received backlash from viewers on social networking sites. Some said the show was “sensationalised” for television ratings and others branded it “inaccurate” and “flawed”. It’s also been accused of inciting racial hatred by some viewers.

Channel 4 said Ofcom will not be investigating the complaints.
