Colors buys new films including 'Cocktail'

Colors has returned to the movie space by acquiring nine movie titles from Eros International for the next seven-nine years.

According to Economic Times, the broadcaster has purchased the following films:
Cocktail – Saif Ali Khan & Deepika Padukone
Khiladi 786 – Akshay Kumar
Kochadaiyaan – Rajinikanth
Raanjhanaa – Dhanush
Go Goa Gone – Saif Ali Khan & Kunal Khemu
Shirin Farhad – Boman Irani & Farah Khan
3G – Neil Nitin Mukesh
Table 21 – Paresh Rawal
Yohan Adhyayam Ondru (Tamil) – Vijay

Raj Nayak, Colors chief executive officer confirmed the news saying, “The way movie prices are going we decided to take a pause. It is not viable for one channel to pick up films at those prices as we cannot amortize it across our channels. At the same time, being a leading general entertainment channel, we cannot not offer movies.”

Earlier this year, Colors had picked up 17 movies from its sister company Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.

This is the first big external acquisition this year for Colors, after the channel sold a large chunk of 500 films from its library to Star Network earlier in January this year, as it deferred the launch of its own movie channel.
