Club Asia up for three gongs at Thames Awards

Club Asia is the first business in the history of the Thames Gateway Business Awards to have two people from one company nominated for the same category ? Outstanding Young Person. Atik Rahman, Head of on air and online imaging and presenter Jas ?The Man? on Drive are both in the running for the accolade. Sumerah Ahmad, Co-founder and Creative Director of Club Asia Radio has been nominated for Businesswoman of the year.

The 8th annual Thames Gateway Business Award Gala dinner takes place at the International Hotel on Friday the 25th of November 2005. The Awards provide a platform for companies large and small to raise their profile within the business community.

At the age of 24 Atik Rahman is responsible for promoting and communicating the Club Asia brand image to listeners and users via the station?s on air output and its online visual. In his two years at Club Asia, Atik has contributed to the company at key stages of its development from launching the station with full imaging with only two months to learn radio production, to expanding the brand online. Atik through sheer determination and many tireless hours of hard work consistently yields results to deadline. A very humble Atik says, ?This is the first time that I have ever been nominated for anything so naturally I?m excited and glad. It?s a great feeling to be recognised for the work that you do?.

Jas ?The Man? on Drive made his mark in the Asian radio industry at an early stage of his career. At the young age of 21, he began his responsibility of entertaining London (the largest radio market in Europe) during the peak drive time show, as well as spearheading the station?s flagship weekend chart show, Club Asia?s Essential 20. On being nominated Jas says, ?It?s great to be nominated for an award that celebrates young people like Atik and me?.

Sumerah Ahmad, Co-founder and Creative Director of Club Asia who only a month ago stood on stage to accept the award for Club Asia when it was named the winner of HSBC Start-up Starts Awards, is now herself a nominee for Businesswoman of the Year. Sumerah says, ?I feel honoured and somewhat blessed. It?s a pleasure to be acknowledged as a business and as a businessperson and within a short space of time ? it?s overwhelming and a testament to Club Asia as a company and its team?.
