Channel S & ATN Bangla in trouble over news

Channel S and ATN Bangla have come in breach of Ofcom rules and regulations, both revolving around their respective elections news outputs in October last year.

During the recent Mayoral election campaign in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Ofcom received complaints about aspects of Channel S and ATN Bangla’s election coverage. A total of seven viewers complained that the coverage of the elections on both these channels was not impartial.

Ofcom requires that if television broadcasters include constituency or electoral area reports in their programming, then the constituency or electoral area reports must include a list of all candidates standing, giving first names, surnames and their party labels.

Ofcom found both channels in breach of being biased in their election news coverage۪s and therefore have been alerted for future election broadcasts.
