Channel ‘S’ acquires ATN Bangla for UK/Europe?

Bangladeshi broadcaster Channel ‘S’ is wiping away its competition by acquiring rival channels.

Only last month, it was confirmed to BizAsia.co.uk that it had bought the rights to broadcast NTV in UK and Europe. Now, it seems Channel ‘S’ is eyeing to get hold of another popular channel in Bangladesh – ATN Bangla.

ATN Bangla previously had a short stint in the UK. It launched in June 2005 before being removed on Sky Digital earlier this summer after it received a hefty fine from media regulator Ofcom. ATN Bangla failed to provide accurate recordings of their output over content viewers found offensive.

ATN Bangla has continued to broadcast on Sky Digital with an EPG channel number since it was taken off in June. Tests spotted over the weekend now show the same ATN Bangla feed with an on screen Channel ‘S’ logo. The EPG Now/Next information is still showing ATN Bangla programming.

At this moment in time, it is not yet clear what the arrangement between Channel ‘S’ and ATN Bangla could be. Has Channel ‘S’ acquired the channel fully or is it simply a UK/Europe distribution deal?Channel ‘S’ was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this article.
