Channel 4 searching for Asian Wife Swap
Not enough Asian faces on the telly? Think you or someone you know should be on the box? Here?s your chance. Wife Swap, the hit television series about family life, is back for a new run and is looking for an extra-special Asian family to take part.
Wife Swap on Channel 4 is the award-winning series which takes a unique look at family life in contemporary Britain, attracting over 7 million viewers, now it?s back for a fifth series and we?re looking for an Asian family to take part.
In each episode, the wives of two contrasting families swap houses and families for two weeks so that they can experience a very different way of life. What will they make of the way their new family parents their children, cleans their house, and spends their money?
The series looks at family lives and the different values that form Britain?s diverse culture, Wife Swap has brought a wide variety of family experiences into focus and revealed different life styles, from the way in which families spend their spare time, what food they eat, and how they clean their houses. Some contributors have also gone on to become household names.
In this, the fifth series, we are hoping to promote as wide a range of British experiences as possible, and we would be very interested in working with an Asian family. We feel that Asian culture should be given a positive platform in the mainstream media and feel confident that with the right family, we will be able to present a modern and dynamic profile of Asian family life in Britain.
So this is an appeal for an Asian family who are proud of their life-style and their family and would be willing to share them with us. Ideally we’d find an upfront, confident couple with children, a sense of humour and real energy; a family up for the challenge of a lifetime. This could be an amazing experience, the start of great new opportunities and a platform to promote other projects.
How it works. We take two wives and swap them for two weeks, for the first week each wife lives according to her host family?s values and activities, and does exactly what their mum does for them. In the second week, she has the chance to change the rules and bring her values into the house and show her new family a different way of life.
At the end of the two week period, the couples meet to discuss what they?ve learned about each other?s lives and their own values during the time of the swap. Past Wife Swaps have changed lives and opinions as families have gained a new insight into their own lives as a result of the experience.
During the swap we can assure sensitivity and respect towards individuals’ culture and religion. We spend a long time getting to know families before the experience, so there is plenty of scope for discussing sensitive areas and ensuring that everybody is happy to proceed. In addition, I, or one of my colleagues will be with the family during the entirety of the swap, so everybody is in the experience together!
