Channel 4 to pay tribute to classical Indian musicians

Channel 4 has lined up a six-part series paying tribute to Indian folk music, plus films on Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain and Wynton Marsalis’s collaboration with Pakistani musicians.

This is the first time Channel 4 will be dedicating a season to Indian music artists in the slot, which it usually dedicates to Indian films. Starting from Thursday 13th April, the music season called ‘Tuning 2 You’ will kick off with a special on artists from West Bengal, followed by Rajasthan, Nagaland, Goa, Karnatka and Varanasi.

The series will also look at various types of music including Raga featuring Ravi Shankar, Indian drum featuring Zakir Hussain and a film-documentary called ‘Song Of Lahore’, which follows several Pakistani musicians, and asks if there is still room for them in a society roiled by conflict. Featuring the music of the Sachal Jazz Ensemble, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.

Channel 4 will broadcast the season weekly on Thursday nights.
