Channel 4 & B4U Network UK acquire UTV films

UK broadcasters, Channel 4 and B4U Network have acquired a slew of new blockbuster titles from UTV Motion Pictures.

As part of the deal, Channel 4 and B4U Network will screen eighteen of UTV’s 2008/2009 titles such as ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’, ‘Dev D’, ‘Kaminey’, ‘Wake Up Sid’ and the recently released ‘Kurbaan’. NDTV Imagine will also show these films in India as well as its international beams.

Similarly, in India, Colors will telecast the premiere run of these movies.

UTV has the right to further syndicate the television rights of these movies to any other channel in the same period.

The value of the deal is pegged at Rs 950 million (Rs 95 crore).

UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur said, “We are pleased to announce these television syndication deals that are non exclusive in nature and hence allow us to exploit the same content across multiple additional broadcasters in India and worldwide. The faith that Colors, NDTV Imagine, B4U and Channel 4 have reposed in our entire slate of productions is heartening and encouraging, and we will continue to work hard to bring audiences content that is entertaining and enjoyable, while pushing the creative boundaries of mainstream commercial cinema.”

Last year, ZEE Network and Colors had signed a similar deal with UTV for its last batch of movies. It remains to be seen if the likes of ZEE Network, STAR and Multi Screen Media also sign on the dotted line for these non-exclusive UTV titles.
