Celebrities grace 10th British Asian Sports Awards

Olly Murs, Shayne Ward and Damage were amongst the celebrities who joined the glamorous tenth anniversary celebration of the Lebara British Asian Sports Awards (BASA) at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Saturday 5th March.

The three hugely popular acts delivered show-stopping performances of their latest tracks, while Britain۪s Got Talent dance troupe Peridot body-popped on stage and motown queen Jocelyn Brown and ace comedian Gina Yashere added some girl power to the show.

The stunning Laila Rouass dazzled in a glittering orange sari as she co-hosted the evening alongside EastEnders۪ much-loved actor Nitin Ganatra (EastEnders). Former EastEnder۪s actress turned pop-star Preeya Kalidas was draped in a floor-length pink gown as she presented the Junior Sports Personality of the Year award while UK TV chef and food writer Ravinder Bhogal carried herself in a stylish sheer black dress as she walked the blue carpet.

Soap stars Diane Parish (Denise) and Ricky Norwood aka Fatboy۪ from EastEnders joined forces to hand out the outstanding achievement award and former stars of the soap Dalip Tahil (Dan Ferreira) and Ramon Tikaram (Amira۪s dad, Qadim Shah) were also in attendance. The Holby City cast including Jimmy Akingbola and Harri Dhillon showed their support as did TV presenter Matthew Wright and the ever-charming actor Colin Salmon, who returned to the event for the second time.

The British Asian Sports Awards were launched in 2001 to raise the profile of talented amateur and semi-professional South Asians involved in sport. It is the only awards ceremony of its kind and over the past ten years has discovered some of Britain۪s most successful sports personalities including WBA World Light Welter Weight Champion Amir Khan, England Women۪s cricketer Isa Guha and badminton Commonwealth silver medallist Rajiv Ouseph.

The event will be shown on Sony Entertainment Television Asia in the coming weeks.
