CBI files closure on Sushant Singh Rajput’s death: “No proof of foul play”
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially closed its investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, ruling out any foul play.
The probe was launched following two complaints, one by Rajput’s father, KK Singh, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and her family of abetment to suicide and financial misconduct, and another by Chakraborty against Sushant’s sisters.
After nearly four years of investigation, the CBI has filed its closure report. Responding to the development, Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, criticised the media for spreading misinformation.
In a statement, Maneshinde said, “The CBI has thoroughly examined every angle before closing the case. The false narratives circulated on social and electronic media were unnecessary and damaging.”
He further remarked, “During the pandemic, when people were confined to their homes, they were consumed by media speculation. Innocent individuals were unfairly targeted, paraded before the media, and subjected to relentless scrutiny. I hope such injustice does not happen again.”

Reflecting on Chakraborty’s ordeal, he added, “Rhea suffered immense hardships, spending 27 days behind bars despite having done nothing wrong. Justice Sarang V Kotwal granted her bail, but the damage had already been done. I commend her and her family for their strength in enduring such inhumane treatment in silence.”
Maneshinde also revealed that both his legal team and Rhea’s family faced threats but remained steadfast in their pursuit of justice.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020, sparking a highly publicised and controversial investigation.
