CBFC to review ‘Padmavati’ this week

With the ‘Padmavati’ row encompassing the headlines for the last few weeks, news about the CBFC not having enough time to review it was also doing the rounds. It’s now come to light that the board will be viewing the film this week.

BizAsiaLive.com reported recently that the film had been re-submitted to the CBFC for 3D certification by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. Incidentally, this was also for 2D because it had been rejected before due to “technical issues”. A source from the board told Asian Age, “The new application is very consciously worded in legalese, and the CBFC is trying to decode the various levels of claims and disclaims in the application about the historic authenticity of the film. This is taking time. But the film will be viewed by the board’s Examining Committee in the coming week, and we will have to organise a panel of historians to examine the content”.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial stars Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the main roles.
