CBFC instructs makers of ‘War 2’ to cut around six “inappropriate references”

Ayan Mukerji’s highly anticipated action thriller ‘War 2’, produced by Yash Raj Films, has received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), though not without a series of mandated edits.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC instructed the filmmakers to make six specific changes, citing “inappropriate references.” Among these were the removal of a two-second obscene gesture by a character and the replacement of an offensive line of dialogue with a board-approved alternative.

The board also directed the team to tone down sensual imagery by 50 per cent—amounting to approximately nine seconds of screen time. This is believed to involve Kiara Advani’s widely discussed bikini sequence. Following the implementation of these edits, ‘War 2’ was granted a U/A certificate on 6 August.

The film was initially submitted with a runtime exceeding three hours. As previously reported, the team later resubmitted a revised version running 170 minutes.

“There has been a significant 13-minute reduction,” a source revealed. “A longer, raw cut was submitted to ensure the film could be distributed to international territories on schedule, while VFX work was still being completed. The shorter theatrical cut is now far more in line with the makers’ original vision.”

The source added that the decision to trim the film was made internally to preserve its pace, particularly in the second half. “To deliver a tighter, more gripping experience, the team chose to refine the edit and resubmit the film accordingly.”
