Cannes Grand Prix winner ‘All We Imagine as Light’ shines at UK premiere
The UK premiere of ‘All We Imagine as Light’, the 2024 Cannes Grand Prix-winning film by Mumbai-based director Payal Kapadia, was held on Friday 18th October at the 68th BFI London Film Festival.
Lead actress Kani Kusruti attended the red-carpet event alongside distinguished guests, including actors Radhika Apte, Tom Stourton, Armeena Khan, Sujaya Dasgupta, Bhavna Limbachia, Purab Kohli, and broadcaster Anita Rani. The film, which captures the intricacies of female friendship against the dynamic backdrop of Mumbai, received high praise at Cannes, where it earned Kapadia a standing ovation and critical acclaim. The UK premiere was similarly met with enthusiasm, marking ‘All We Imagine as Light’ as the first Indian film in thirty years to enter Cannes’ Official Competition. Kapadia’s selection also made history, as she became the first female Indian filmmaker to compete in this esteemed category.

‘All We Imagine as Light’ is an international co-production between France, India, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Producers Thomas Hakim and Julien Graff of Petit Chaos in Paris collaborated with Zico Maitra of Chalk & Cheese Films in Mumbai.
