Cannes 2016: Indian stars set to fly in for festival

The 69th Cannes Film Festival gets underway this evening with the biggest line-up of movies and stars descending to the French Riviera.

The first film to be showcased at the world-famous event will be Woody Allen’s ‘Cafe Society’, which kicks off the 11-day extravaganza.

The first Bollywood star to walk the Red Carpet will be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Friday and Saturday, while Sonam Kapoor, Frieda Pinto, Mallika Sherawat and Amy Jackson will also be attending over the next few days.

Rajamouli and Shobu Yarlagadda will lead a discussion on virtual reality (VR) at the March̩ du Film, a film market event taking place alongside the festival. The Kabir Bedi narrated movie ‘Mount of Excellence’ will be screened on the 19th and 20th May. Saurav Rai, a student of Kolkata�۪s Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), will showcase his 28-minute Nepali-language diploma film ‘Gudh’ (Nest).

Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ team will be the Bollywood highlight – getting its official screening. Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be at the festival to promote the film from 14th May 2016.

As a part of the classic movies line-up at the festival, the 1959 Pakistani film ‘Jago Hua Savera’ will be restored.

A section of the festival to help upcoming talent ‘Cannes Atelier’ will showcase Aditya Vikram Sengupta�۪s ‘Memories and My Mother’ (India) and Pooja Gurung and Bibhusan Basnet�۪s ‘The Whole-timers’ (Nepal).
