Calls to ban ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush’ on Colors

Colors’ recently launched mythological ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush’ has landed in hot water after certain scenes in the show hurt the sentiments of the Valmiki community in Punjab.

As a result of the recent episodes of ‘Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush’, the state imposed a ban on the show. It is said that the show portrayed Rishi Valmiki in a negative light, offending viewers.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday refused to stay the ban on the series, with a further hearing expected this week. A petition was filed by the broadcaster but Justice T.S. Dhindsa declined to grant stay on the order passed by various District Commissioners in their capacity as District Magistrates.

In the hearing, Colors contended that the ban order was passed without adhering to the principles of natural justice, and without the ingredients of Section 19 of the Cable Operators Regulation Act. The channel has also offered to delete the scenes.

Meanwhile, the governing Bharatiya Janata Party has called on the show to be banned nationwide.
