Sky planning Asian TV package?

BSkyB is planning to launch its first Asian TV channels package sometime in March, according to reliable sources.

As exclusively revealed on BizAsia last month, BSkyB is launching a new bundle, which will consist of channels that are currently encrypted.

While, BSkyB is still in negotiations with many of the broadcasters, BizAsia understands that the likes of B4U Movies and ARY Digital have already given the green signal to the project. With these two joining the package, Sony Entertainment Television Asia and Sony MAX could be following too, signalling the end of VIEWASIA. ZEE TV and ZEE Cinema are also expected to join but a decision is yet to be confirmed.

There is also a strong possibility that the soon-to-launch Pakistani channel, Hum TV could be added to the package.

BizAsia has also got to know that the only premium broadcaster not to have been approached by BSkyB so far has been Geo UK. BizAsia contacted Geo UK about the same but did not receive a response at the time of filing this article. It is not know why but BSkyB is officially yet to announce details of the new initiative.

The package is rumoured to be priced between 10 – 12 per month.
