Broadcasters turn off signal on cable platforms in India due to price hike row

Broadcasters in India have turned off transmission signals across cables platforms due to an escalating row over a price hike.

Disney Star, Sony Pictures Networks and ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Limited channels have been unavailable on cable platforms since Saturday 18th February. All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF) members rejected a notice sent to them on 15th February.

The spat between the two parties took a further twist on Sunday when the Indian Broadcasting & Digital Foundation (IBDF) accused the AIDCF of inaccurate reporting about the new price regime.

“Disney-Star, Sony and Zee switched off their channels on 18th February morning. Only three broadcasters have taken action. Other broadcasters who have not affected switch-off include Colors, Times, Discovery, Sun TV, ETV, etc. Now, broadcasters are urging consumers to go through the inconvenience of changing their service provider for their own limited benefit,” read AIDFC’s recent statement.
