Broadcasters ready Independence Day shows

Asian TV and radio networks have begun finalising their special programming schedules for the celebration of Pakistan and India’s Independence Days.

On the 14th and 15th of August, 1947, Pakistan and India became completely independent. It was on this historic date that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime Minister of India, unfurled the Indian tricolor on the ramparts the magnificent Red Fort, symbolically marking the end of the British colonial rule.

As every year, Asian broadcasters are all set to unleash their patriotic films and shows to celebrate the 58th Independence Day of each country.

Radio

When contacted BBC Asian Network on programme details for the two days, we were told that the station will not be celebrating the Independence Days. Reason? “The reason for this is the fact that there are too many political issues involved. We only mark the days if there is a relevant editorial reason,” an insider at the Asian Network informed Biz Asia.

Sunrise Radio, Sabras Radio, Radio XL, Asian Gold, Club Asia and others will be running special music throughout the 14th and 15th of August.

We will keep this page updated with any last minute changes to TV and radio channels.
