BritAsia TV in breach with Ofcom over offensive Diljit Dosanjh song
BritAsia TV has been pulled by media regulator, Ofcom for airing offensive language in the music video for the song “Chauffeur” by Diljit Dosanjh and Tory Lanez.
The song was broadcast pre-watershed at approximately 17:00 featuring a mixture of Punjabi and English lyrics. The English lyrics included 16 instances of the word “ni**a” and one instance of the word “f**k”.
The broadcaster admitted that the song had been reviewed by its compliance team “who identified a number of lyrics and verses that were open to colloquial interpretation” and that the rap segment “contained lyrics which may be considered unsuitable for pre-watershed broadcast”. However, the information identifying the content as unsuitable for pre-watershed broadcast appeared to have been removed from the music video file “due to an unintentional system error”.
