Brit Asia TV has been rapped by Ofcom for exceeding commercial airtime.

During its routine monitoring of COSTA compliance, Ofcom identified 59 instances between 29 January and 15 March 2015 where the amount of advertising in a single clock hour exceeded the permitted allowance by between five and 141 seconds.

Brit Asia TV said that it had recently signed up to an audience monitoring system, and in order to be able to report Brit Asia TV۪s playout, had implemented changes to its playout systems, including a new scheduling system. The Licensee said these changes took place towards the end of January 2015 and that the overruns occurred within the teething period۝. Brit Asia said it took these overruns very seriously and that improvementsto its systems had been ongoing since January. The Licensee stated that since receiving communication from Ofcom about the overruns (on 6th March), it had implemented a major change to [its] processes۝ in the week commencing 16 March to prevent recurrence, and was fully confident these instances cannot occur again۝.

In this case, Ofcom found that the amount of advertising broadcast by Brit Asia TV was in breach of Rule 4 of COSTA on 30 occasions.
