Brit Asia TV to air ‘Brick Lane’ & ‘Bhaji On The Beach’

Brit Asia TV will be broadcasting two cult movies this Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, the channel will show ‘Brick Lane’ (2007), which is about a young Bangladeshi woman, Nazneen, who arrives in 1980s London, leaving behind her beloved sister and home, for an arranged marriage and a new life. Married to a man she does not love, Nazneen lives vicariously through the letters she receives from her sister about her carefree life. The film picks up the story after Nazneen and her husband have lived in a small flat for 16 years and been raising two daughters. ‘Brick Lane’ will air on Sunday 24th December at 20:00.

On Christmas Day, Brit Asia TV will screen the modern day classic ‘Bhaji On The Beach’ (1993), which is about a community group of Indian women (mostly Punjabis of various faiths) of all generations from Great Britain, who take a group day out to the Blackpool Illuminations. The tensions of the generation gap torn between tradition and modernism as well as the personal upsets and issues of the women and girls come to boiling point as they spend the day out. ‘Bhaji On The Beach’ will air on Monday 25th December at 20:00.
