Box Office: ‘Thappad’ opens up to poor response in India

Taapsee Pannu’s female-centric film ‘Thappad’, helmed by Anubhav Sinha, has opened up to a poor response at the ticket window in India.

According to Box Office India, the film fetched a start of 10-12% – better than ‘Panga’ starring Kangana Ranaut. ‘Thappad’ has potential of picking up in evening trade and possibly evening due to its positive reviews.

‘Chhapaak’ starring Deepika Padukone, did slightly better than ‘Thappad’ but that was expected due to its lead star. The only female-oriented film to work well recently is ‘Mardaani 2’ starring Rani Mukerji.

‘Doordarshan’ – the second release this week, was a washout.
