Box Office: ‘Talaash’ hits Rs.100 crore worldwide; ‘Khiladi 786’ steady

Khiladi 786 & Talaash
Both 'Khiladi 786' and 'Talaash' are steady at the box office

The Aamir-Kareena-Rani starrer ‘Talaash’ has entered the coveted 100 crore club earning approximately Rs. 85 crore in India and equivalent to Rs 45 crore abroad (source: Mid Day). Made on an extremely modest budget of Rs. 40 crore, the film can be classified a hit and though not in the league of previous Aamir starrers collections wise, this figure is still good given the film۪s genre. In the UK the film collected a further 138,246 taking its total to a respectable 713,640 (source: BFI).

The Akshay-Asin starrer Khiladi 786۪ is steady and collected Rs 45 crore (source: Bollywood Hungama) in its first week which isn۪t bad, but still nowhere near as big as previous Akshay Kumar starrers that released earlier this year. Although the film isn۪t a flop its returns are still disappointing. In the UK the film collected 104,208 (source: The Guardian) and trailed in at number 12 collecting less than Talaash۪, even though it was released a week later.

Both films have the advantage of another open week without any major releases, that is, until the Salman Khan starrer Dabangg 2۪ hits the marquee on 21st December. A sequel to 2010 smash hit Dabanng۪, the film is expected to obliterate box office records and put Salman in an enviable position as far as box office takings are concerned.
