Today sees a box office clash between the Chopra sisters – Priyanka and Parineeti – as both of their films, ‘Zanjeer’ and ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’, release side by side. Early collection reports indicate that the latter is faring better than the former at the Indian box office.
Also starring Sushant Singh Rajput and introducing Vaani Kapoor, ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ is proving more popular with the audiences even though it is playing in less screens than ‘Zanjeer’ up and down the country. The film is on the up with afternoon shows already showing an increase in capacity. Interestingly, by the end of the first day, ‘Zanjeer’, which sees popular South star Ram Charan making his B-town debut, could end up making just half the amount ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ makes at the ticket windows. This would be a success of sorts for Yash Raj Films who produce the movie especially as the number of screens the movie is being shown in is considerably less.
The Telugu release ‘Thoofan’ has opened seemingly better than it’s Hindi counterpart but, according to Box Office India, ‘Zanjeer’ will not be outdoing ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ in any area by the end of the day.
Last week’s release ‘Satyagraha’, struggled just under the 50 crores nett mark in it’s first week.
