Box Office: ‘Shamitabh’ does better in South but poor overall

This week sees the release of the much-awaited ��Shamitabh�۪ starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush and Akshara Haasan. The film, which is directed by R Balki, was expected to see a decent opening but it has opened to a dull response on the first day, BizAsia can reveal.

With two popular stars and one debutante, it�۪s hard to believe the film wouldn�۪t do well at the box office. However, it seems to have opened better in Southern India than elsewhere, according to Box Office India. Dhanush is, of course, a South star so this result is perhaps an understandable one.

Last week�۪s releases ��Khamoshiyan�۪ and ��Hawaizaada�۪ have done poorly in their first with the latter struggling majorly. One can only hope that next week�۪s ��Roy�۪ will do better at the ticket windows than any of 2015�۪s releases have done so far.
