Box Office: ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has historic opening day

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has had a humongous start at the domestic box office and beaten the all-time opening day collections of films like ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘PK’.

The family blockbuster has garnered in the region of Rs. 39-40 crore at the box office, according to Box Office India. The film has not only broken the first day record of last year’s Diwali release ‘Happy New Year’ but also emerged with the highest single day of all time edging past the Sunday figures of ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘PK’ which were 38.50 crore nett apprx.

Trade analysts say that the the higher ticket prices and higher number of screens, compared to ‘Happy New Year’ is what has edged ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ over the mark. The film is expected to have a bumper weekend with Diwali celebrations continuing throughout the next three days.
