Box Office: Poor start for ‘Go Goa Gone’ & ‘Gippi’

Poor start for 'Go Goa Gone'
Poor start for 'Go Goa Gone'

This week sees the release of zombie comedy ‘Go Goa Gone’ starring Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu and Vir Das as well as Karan Johar production ‘Gippi’ with newcomer Riya Vij playing protagonist. Both movies have opened below expectations at the domestic box office.

It seems ‘Go Goa Gone’ which many were hailing as a fresh genre to Bollywood, although having a positive buzz surrounding it, hasn’t really faired well so far. However, the evenings will possibly indicate a rise due to popularity at the multiplexes across the country. So far, early shows have achieved a dismal 25-30% occupancy.

‘Gippi’ which is about the trials and tribulations of adolescence has opened at a low level too because of the new stars and a genre which is arguably aimed at a younger audience. There haven’t been many promotions for the movie which is directed by Sonam Nair and also stars Divya Dutta.

Last week’s release ‘Shootout at Wadala’ has done very well at the ticket windows over the week and ‘Bombay Talkies’ has been appreciated by cinema-goers despite the limited release.
