Box Office: ‘Padmavati’ to release after March?

With Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ embroiled in controversy, it now seems the film will not release before March.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the film will be scrutinised further by CBFC to check the factual history, which relates to Rani Padmavati. The film has been at the centre of protests after the Rajput Karni Sena threatened violence against the film’s makers and stars, plus cinemas, who screen the film.

The CBFC will be cross-checking the facts that are depicted in the film for authenticity. Furthermore, the film, which was expected to get clearance this month, is unlikely to until January. The report adds that there are around 40 films in various languages waiting in the queue clearance. Also, the CBFC will have to await the nod from historians in January before sitting with them to check the film’s subject.

‘Padmavati’ stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
