Box Office: ‘Padmaavat’ has a strong opening despite protests

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ has finally seen the light of day, and is receiving positive reviews. The film is doing decently based on where it has been releasing, and is reportedly Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh’s biggest opening.

Pinkvilla reports that the movie has earned about Rs. 18 Crore net on its opening day on Thursday. While it’s not the massive opening which was expected, the numbers are still decent, as there has been at least 30-35% of the market lost, because of the ban in a lot of states. The film has done immensely well in Mumbai and Chandigarh, while areas in the South have not had good business due to local protests. The film is expected to do well in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia, and also benefit from the national holiday.

‘Padmaavat’ is not clashing with any other Bollywood films at the box office.
