This week sees just one release, ‘Ek Thi Daayan’,and that too from Balaji Motion Pictures and Vishal Bhardwaj. If past films from the production house are anything to go by, this latest offering should have no problems striking a chord with the audiences. However, early figures show that the film has achieved an average opening of around 30-40% occupancyat the domestic box office, according to Box Office India.

‘Ek Thi Daayan’ stars Emraan Hashmi, Huma Qureshi, Kalki Koechlin and Konkona Sen Sharma in lead roles and is a thriller. Much has been done innovatively to promote the movie including a spin-off TV series and the launch of a book. However, because the cost of making the movie has remained low, it seems even a mediocre opening will recover the budget set.

‘Ek Thi Daayan’ has achieved a somewhat better run at the ticket windows on opening day thanlast week’s releases. However, both ‘Nautanki Saala’ and ‘Commando’ are running successfully side by side and it is thought that they will carry on in the same way what with ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ being of a different genre.
